Freedom of Information Act (FOIA)

The Virginia Freedom of Information Act (VFOIA), Code of Virginia § 2.2-3700 et seq., grants citizens of Virginia and members of the media the right to access public records maintained by ANTC. All public records, except those specifically exempted from disclosure by law, are available for inspection and copying upon request. Staff will inform you in writing if the records you have requested are exempt from disclosure.

ANTC will respond to your request within 5 working days of its receipt. Please be aware that ANTC may notify you that it requires an additional 7 working days to provide a complete response. A working day is a day in which ANTC offices are open. ANTC office hours are 8 a.m. - 4 p.m., Monday - Friday during the school year and 7:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m., Monday - Thursday during the summer. Requests submitted after working hours or at times ANTC offices are closed will be marked as received on the next ANTC working day.

You must provide your full name, and legal mailing address. Please note: Requests received without a full name and mailing address will not be processed until these are provided.

ANTC may make reasonable charges for the actual costs to access, search for, duplicate and supply requested records. If a deposit is required, the five (5) day response time does not begin until the deposit is received. A public body may make reasonable charges not to exceed its actual cost incurred in accessing, duplicating, supplying, or searching for the requested records. No public body shall impose any extraneous, intermediary, or surplus fees or expenses to recoup the general costs associated with creating or maintaining records or transacting the general business of the public body. Any duplicating fee charged by a public body shall not exceed the actual cost of duplication. All charges for the supplying of requested records shall be estimated in advance at the request of the citizen as set forth in subsection F of Section 2.2-3704 of the Code of Virginia. If the estimated cost is expected to be more than $200, a deposit will be required in order to continue with the request.
